A habit of Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho in his second spell at the club has been to make a big signing in the summer to replace a big player at Chelsea, who will be shipped out in the January transfer window. The Gist takes a look at which Chelsea player will be most likely to be shipped off.
It came as a surprise to many Chelsea fans when two time player of the year winner Juan Mata was sold off to Man Utd for 37 million pounds and even more shocking when Mourinho sold off versatile World Cup winner Andre Schurrle the following January to Wolfsburg after an injury hit first half of the season when he came in and out of the team and couldn’t hold down a regular starting place. The two were inadvertently replaced by Mohamad Salah and Juan Cuadrado who both have now been loaned off to Roma and Juventus respectively.
With the coming of Pedro, one wonders who between the front trio of Oscar, Willian and Eden Hazard will be offloaded. It seems unlikely that poster boy Hazard will be let go by Chelsea so that leaves Oscar and Willian to fight for a place in the team. Oscar who has had a tough past seven months were he has had a succession of injuries that inadvertently resulted in him missing Brazil’s Copa America campaign and has failed to find his form which Mourinho planned to build the Chelsea team around at the start of his second reign at the helm of Chelsea. Interest from Italian giants Juventus could result in a January switch for the 23 year old Brazilian attacker. Willian on the other hand could also face an exit. Despite hitting form towards the end of Chelsea’s title winning 2014/15 campaign, the 26 year old winger has disappointed in terms of his scoring rate bagging only 4 goals in the 2014/15 season. As compared to the other two of the blues front three, Hazard scored 17 goals picking up the PFA player of the year award while Oscar scored 7 goals. It’s unlikely that the blues will offload the Burkinabe teenage prodigy Bertrand Traore who has been kept by Chelsea to gain some premier league experience after a successful loan spell at Vitesse in Holland.
The purchase of Pedro has already bore some fruit with the winger having a goal and two assists in two games. However, only time will tell who will be next on the Mourinho chopping board.
